The Costa Brava is a coastal region of northeastern Catalonia, in the province of Girona. The Costa Brava stretches from Blanes, 60km northeast of Barcelona, to the French border. Beaches, coves, cliffs and woods sit among renowned places like Tossa de Mar, Begur, Cadaques and Palafrugell.
Tourism rapidly took over from fishing as the principal business of the area. The modern tourist infrastructure of the area has turned Costa Brava into one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. The combination of a very good summer climate, nature and excellent beaches led to the construction of large numbers of hotels and apartments in such seaside resorts as Blanes, Calella and Lloret de Mar.
